Justice Gokhale sworn in Chief Justice of Madras High Court


Chennai (PTI): Justice Hemant Laxman Gokhale was on Monday sworn-in as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.

The Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala administered the oath of office to Mr. Justice Gokhale at the Raj Bhavan here.

Mr. Justice Gokhale, who was Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, had been transferred to the Madras High Court in place of Chief Justice A K Ganguly who was elevated as a Supreme Court judge in December last year.

Those present at the swearing-in included Acting Chief Justice S J Mukhopadhyaya, other judges of the high court and representatives of various advocates' associations.

Finance Minister K Anbazhgan, Local Administration Minister M K Stalin, Chief Secretary K Sripathy, Home Secretary S Malathy, DGP KP Jain and City Police Commissioner K Radhakrishnan were also among those who attended the function.
