COLOMBO: Security officials say a suspected rebel suicide blast near a mosque in southern Sri Lanka has killed 10 people and wounded three government ministers.
Military spokesman Brig Udaya Nanayakkara says the rebel suicide attacker struck early on Tuesday during a ceremony celebrating an Islamic holiday near the mosque outside the southern town of Matara.
Police spokesman Ranjith Gunasekara says the blast killed 10 people and wounded three ministers.
The Tamil Tiger rebels have been blamed for repeated attacks on senior government officials in the past.
