Priyanka Gandhi, Manmohan Singh back Rahul Gandhi as future PM
24/7 News Network: The 2009 general elections may again give a fractured mandate with no clear majority for any party or combine. However, the UPA will have an upper hand over the NDA, as not many parties will prefer to tie up with the BJP. The Congress has already announced Dr. Manmohan Singh as its Prime Ministerial candidate and it seems that he will retain his position this time. However, if the Congress returns to power in 2014, Rahul Gandhi will emerge as the top contender for the Prime Minister's job. Even Dr. Manmohan Singh has acknowledged that Rahul Gandhi is a PM material.

Priyanka Gandhi, while campaigning in Amethi, said that she wants to see Rahul as the Prime Minister of India someday. Even as Rahul termed Priyanka's statement as her personal thought, it is no secret that all Congress partymen want to see Rahul at the helm as soon as possible.

With Sonia Gandhi showing reluctance to take over as the Prime Minister of the country, Rahul Gandhi may emerge stronger than ever, come the 2014 general elections. If the 15th Lok Sabha elections does not complete its terms and there are fresh elections in the country anytime between 2010 - 2013, Rahul may still get the nod.

All Congress leaders and UPA allies have endorsed Rahul Gandhi's leadership and they won't have any objections to his elevation to the top job. Rahul has the charisma to take everyone on his side, there is little doubt about this. After LK Advani, the BJP will have a dilemma to project a strong leader as its Prime Minister. However, Congress already has the best possible option ready.

Rahul Gandhi always says that he does not believe in dynasty politics. However, he has proved himself as a leader of the masses in the last 5-6 years. Rahul may not need the 'Gandhi' tag to prove his leadership abilities. People may recognise him from his face and work, not from the 'Gandhi' surname.
